The last lecture has given us basic information about the SME Foundation. The function of the SME Foundation is to create linkages among buyers and sellers. Now let us talk about BSCIC. The explication of BSCIC is Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation.

BSCIC is established in 1957 for an entrepreneurial society. BSCIC is under the Ministry of Industries. The vision of BSCIC is to promote industrial growth and extension and to eliminate poverty. Employment opportunities are created for enhancing economic development.


BSCIC is a government organization. The training institute of BSCIC is situated in Uttara, Dhaka. BSCIC has 15 skill development centers, 1 design center, and 1 well-equipped center. The Head office of BSCIC is located in Motijheel, Dhaka. 



Objectives of BSCIC:
a. To increase industrial production and productivity
b. To create employment opportunities
c. to eliminate poverty
d. To ensure balanced regional growth
e. To ensure optimum utilization of human and capital resources


Functions of BSCIC:
a. Entrepreneurship development
b. Counseling and training
c. To provide infrastructure facilities
d. To provide credit facilities
e. To provide technical and consultancy support
f. To develop new design and prototype
g. Innovation and adoption of new technology
h. To conduct relevant research
i. To register license
j. To provide tax exemption for a company

Initiative for small and cottage industries:
a.BSCIC has established Public training institutes.
b. Human resource development training
c. Agency sector, public, and private training
d. 6 faculties of BSCIC arrange training programs for 1-2 weeks.

Entrepreneurship Development Faculty, General Management Faculty, Industrial Management Faculty, Financial Management Faculty, Marketing Management Faculty, and Research and Consultancy Faculty. These faculties are under Small and Cottage Industries Training Institute(SCITI).

267 salt iodization plants exist under the control of universal iodization disorder according to June 2006.

3.Short note
One-Stop Service(OSS)All service is served in one place. BIDA opened the One-Stop Service Centre for investors on February 24, 2019. According to the One-Stop Service Act 2018, some rules make mandatory for 25 investment facilitating agencies and regulatory authorities to give registration, issue clearance, permits, and other documents from one day to up to 45 days. Before the latest news, the One-Stop Service provides 18 services of BIDA, Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms(RJSC), National Board of Revenue(NBR), and Sonali Bank. Bangladesh Investment Development Authority(BIDA) is set to include 11 more services under the One-Stop Service(OSS) Center by June 2020 to provide all necessary services for investors from a single window. BSCIC Salt Program:
Bangladesh Salt Industries Information System(BSIIS) is under BSCIC. In 1989, the government of Bangladesh adopted the Universal Salt Iodization(USI) strategy. Nutrition International(NI) In Bangladesh is assisting the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders(CIDD) Project of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation(BSCIC) so that the government can achieve its target.

According to the data of Bangladesh Bank, 7.58 lakh metric tonnes of various types of salt have been imported in the fiscal year 2018-19. As per the data of the BSCIC, the demand for salt for industrial use is around 9.5 lakh metric tonnes a year. Farmers produce salt in 60,796 acres of land in various Upazilas of Cox's Bazar. Production of salt is completed six months a year between November and May in the country. A total of around 4 lakh metric tonnes of salt have been produced in this season while the production target is 18.49 lakh metric tonnes. According to BSCIC, 213 salt centers exist across the country. As per BSCIC officials, the production cost of salt is high in the country as farmers spend almost 60 percent of it to lease land.
